Since they were toddlers, these two splendid musicians have been immersed in an atmosphere of traditional music and adventurous, ground-breaking approaches to the arrangement and playing of that music.
Both Rosie's and Ben's dads were founder members of that legendary and much missed folk/rock ensemble Hedgehog Pie, a band whose dynamic approach to Irish and Northeastern folk song and dance music still echoes down the years to the core inspirations behind Ben's previous band, Tarras.
Now Ben and Rosie are carrying the torch of that venturesome and eclectic spirit forward to bring their love of the tradition to a whole new generation of acoustic music fans. Mill Lane their first CD as a duo, looks set to blaze new trails in roots music, once more focussing on British traditional sources while adding their own heady brew of jazz, rock and world music influences and two of the finest voices to emerge on the British folk scene for many years.
Ben and Rosie's entirely fresh approach to traditional song brings to their arrangements a very contemporary flavour which at the same time confirms and underlines the timeless nature of the stories and emotions expressed. Their own songs, also framed by their solid musicianship and the clarity of their harmony singing, are seductive and aimed straight at the heart.
